Above, the Manchester Birding Tournament Trophy, very kindly donated by Paul Heaton and presented to the winning birder for his 12 month reign! Welcome to the Manchester Birding Tournament. Basically it's intended to be a year long contest (running 1st January to 31st December) where, for each uncommon, scarce or rare county bird you find, you'll receive points and the birder with the most points at the end of the year wins! It's intended to be entirely fun and as competitive as each individual wants to make it, some might like to go 'all out' whereas other might like to incorporate it in their usual casual birding at their local patch, the beauty of the contest is that all birders have an equal chance, anyone can find good county birds, so why not join in and have a go? The contest is open to all, is entirely free to enter and has already contributed to the finding of more good county birds though the year. Most importantly it encourages you to explore previously seldom covered sites or to cover your preferred local patch more frequently and to enjoy getting back to finding your very own birds! All those interested should contact me here so I can place your name on the regularly updated rankings board, there will also be regular reports on who's found what and everything in between! Entrants can join at any point throughout the year, although they should take note of number 5 in the 'Tournament Rules' below.
