HOLLINGWORTH
LAKE This site guide is taken from the previous county birding website and was written by Judith Smith, but requires a more detailed up-to-date version, so I would invite any local birder with good knowledge of the site to write or assist in the writing of such a guide. A large stone-lined reservoir used for sailing. There is a nature reserve with a rudimentary hide at one end but this area needs better management to attract more species; rather like Audenshaw Reservoirs, lack of habit forces trans-Pennine migrants to move on quickly. An excellent visitor centre just off Rakewood Rd (parking charge here and at the Beach Hotel area). Rarities have included Shag, Black-winged Stilt, Black-throated Diver, Slavonian Grebe. A small number of Greenland White-fronted Geese winter most years. Access from J21 of M62 at Milnrow, follow brown tourist signs to lake. Suitable for disabled access
