ELTON RESERVOIR SITE LISTS

Another relatively well watched site with an excellent history of birds and birding.

SPECIES TOTAL NAME FURTHER DETAILS
181 Peter Baron

As Elton's birding 'guru' it's not surprising Peter has accumulated the largest number of species seen there in his 40 years covering there and his best species include Great Grey Shrike, White-winged Black Tern, Bittern, Arctic Skua (x3!), Great Northern Diver (x2), Red-throated Diver, Great White Egret, Little Egret and Osprey.

167 Simon Warford Simon's main 'patch' has produced many highlights on the way and during his many years birding there. The best of them are 3 self-found Ospreys, Firecrest (3), Shag, Great Northern Diver, Mediterranean Gull, Wood Sandpiper (2), Slavonian and Black-necked Grebe, White-fronted Goose, Bittern, Little Stint (2), Waxwing, Little Egret, a single flock of 26 Bar-tailed Godwits, Red Kite, Water Pipit and 25 species of wader. There have been some painful omissions however, with dare I say it White-winged Black Tern perhaps the pick but other easier birds he has yet to add are Red-necked Grebe, Garganey, Merlin and Brambling.
154 Ian Campbell

Having been birding Elton for around 15 years but only seriously for the past 5 (as of 2010), Ian's best self-found patch birds include Black-necked Grebe, Brent Goose (5 pale-bellied), Merlin, Sanderling, Twite and a single flock of 20 Brambling. His other highlight are Great Northern Diver, Shag, Curlew Sandpiper, Firecrest, Great White Egret, Red-necked Grebe, Bittern and Osprey.

144 Ian Peters Amongst Ian's best site birds are Merlin, Short-eared Owl, Glaucous Gull, Kittiwake and Mediterranean Gull.
142 Paul Wilson Although Paul actually lives inside the Elton Reservoir recording area, he didn't become a birder until 2005 and only began seriously watching the site in 2007 but despite this his good site birds already include Shag, Bittern, Osprey, Mediterranean Gull, Red-necked Grebe, Knot, Brent Goose, Twite, Sanderling, Woodcock as well as self-found Waxwing, Curlew Sandpiper and Firecrest in his garden. Paul has also managed to photograph 113 species on his Elton list since 2005 and is most pleased with his collections of Shag and Firecrest images and a close-up shot of a Jack Snipe.
141 Brian Fielding
128 Simon Johnson Despite having seen no 'megas' since he began watching the site in 2005 he has managed such good birds as Hobby, Waxwing, Osprey, Knot, Sanderling, Red Kite, Spotted Flycatcher and Redstart, although his concentrated efforts at other county birding sites have caused him to miss a few very good site birds for Elton in the process. added Woodcock, 28.01.12
