LONG-TAILED SKUA
There is only 1 record of this great county rarity in Greater Manchester.
The 1970 bird stayed for 5 days and is said to have provided some of the great birding moments of the flash, unfortunately the vast majority of us can only imagine! It was remarkably tame, only showing signs of concerned when approached by dogs and fed on what was then a small refuse tip on the south side of the flash, it's diet consisting of meat from animal bones.
