WHITE STORK

 

This species has a somewhat contentious and tenuous position on the county list owing to annually wandering confirmed escapes from a site in Yorkshire. Judging potentially wild records is complicated but the records below are those currently considered to be wild beyond all reasonable doubt.

 

2008   Heald Green 3rd May  Three birds flew over north-west and were subsequently seen flying east over Swillington Ings in Yorkshire. Previous to these sightings 2 groups of three birds were recorded during April in North Ronaldsay, Orkney and in Moray/Nairn.
