WATER PIPIT

The largest single site flock of Water Pipits in the county was of 11 birds at Sale Water Park in late December 1983. A short stretch of the River Mersey from Chorlton Meadows to Sale Water Park early in 1984 held 16 birds however.

The change in fortunes of this species in the county is plain to see as in 1983 some 28 birds were recorded in the county, whereas it's steady decline has resulted in no records since 2002 and reassignment of Water Pipit as a true county rarity.

A document covering the status of Water Pipit in the county and it's identification and separation from Rock Pipit can be found here.
