PIED WAGTAIL

Greater Manchester sports many excellent winter roosts of Pied Wagtails (yarelli) but none approach the county record of 2000 birds at Shell Carrington. This figure has been recorded on 3 occasions as birds roosted on warm pipes inside the reactor cells on the polymer plant at Montell Polyolefins, Carrington now known as Basell Polyolefins from the 9th December 1997 to the year end, January and February 1999 and January and February 2001.

The record Greater Manchester count for White Wagtail (alba) is of 120 birds at Pennington Flash on the 30th April 1977.
