LITTLE EGRET
The largest flock of Little Egrets in Greater Manchester is of 3 birds, first recorded on the 2nd May 2003 at Pennington Flash (and was infact the first ever multiple sighting in the county) and then the same birds flew over Hope Carr Nature Reserve later the same day. It has since been repeated twice, with 3 birds at Hope Carr Nature Reserve on the 12th August 2006 and then the same 3 birds at Rumworth Lodge on the 14-15th August 2006.
The county's first record of Little Egret was as recent as the 28th May 1989 and the full story of it's discovery can be read here. By far the strangest record of a county Little Egret is of a bird seen overflying a test match at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground by 3 separate observers watching the live footage on their TV screens, one of whom lived in Leicestershire!
