GREAT SNIPE

 

There have been a frankly incredible 5 records of Great Snipe in the county, although one wonders how many of those would measure up against modern day scrutiny?

1945   Worsley 20th Oct Shot
1945   Worsley 11th Nov Flushed from same locality as the above record
1946   Worsley 15th Apr Seen
1979   Greenfield 24th Sep A juvenile/1st winter, shot on farmland below the moors, corpse now at the Natural History Museum
