FIELDFARE

The largest flock of Fieldfare ever recorded in the county was of 2500 birds at Westhaughton on the 3rd February 1996.

Large movements of this species are not uncommon although the 3052 birds which passed over Burnt Edge Moor in two and a half hours between 10:00 and 12:30 on the 2nd November 2006 was particularly impressive as were the 1000 birds an hour counted in poor weather heading south-east over Pennington Flash on the early morning of the 22nd January 1984.
