COOT

The largest single site count of Coot in Greater Manchester was of 1250 birds on Scotmans Flash during late November 1979.

An interesting record involves a Coot that was accidentally hooked by an angler near Shot wick, Cheshire on the 1st March 2000, the bird was released unharmed but not before the angler had read the metal ring around the bird's leg. It later transpired that the bird had been ringed at Pennington Flash on the 25th January 2000!

Another ringing recovery involved a bird ringed at Pennington Flash on the 11th October 2003 and re-sighted at Southport Marine Lake, Lancashire on the 10th October 2005, a distance of 36kms.
