BROAD-BILLED SANDPIPER

There have been 2 records of this rare wader in Greater Manchester, both of which have been in late May!

Full details and photographs of the 2005 Watergrove bird can be found here, whilst the 1971 Lightshaw bird was originally rejected by The British Birds Rarities Committee due to the perceived improbability of spring vagrancy of this species at that time but was re-submitted in 2006 in the light of our vastly improved understanding of the migration and occurrence of Broad-billed Sandpipers in the UK and was accepted.
