BLACK-THROATED DIVER

 

There have only been 17 records of Black-throated Diver in Greater Manchester. 

 

 

1976   Scotman's Flash 21-27th Nov The first record for the county
1977   Audenshaw Reservoir 26-27th Nov An adult bird
1978   Pennington Flash 15th-16th Dec  
1985   Audenshaw Reservoir 11th Feb This bird was subsequently seen at Gorton Reservoir until the 15th Feb
1985   Audenshaw Reservoir 25th Apr  
1985   Pennington Flash 31st Oct-21st Nov A male bird, it unfortunately died on the 21st Nov
1987   Audenshaw Reservoir Late Jan A single bird in poor health stayed during the second half of January but was found dead on the 31st Jan
1987   Pennington Flash 26th Nov-7th Dec  
1989   Pennington Flash 5th May  
1990   Audenshaw Reservoir 1st Jan Flew off southwards
1990   Clifton Marina 10-16th Dec Bird picked up dead on the 16th with shotgun pellets in the head and fishing hook in its gullet
1993   Castleshaw Reservoirs 7-14th Nov 1st winter bird
1994   Audenshaw Reservoir 27th Feb-24th Mar Juvenile, occasionally visited Gorton Reservoirs
1994   Hollingworth Lake 10-13th May 1st summer bird
1997   Audenshaw Reservoir 3rd-4th Jan 1st winter bird
1997   Hollingworth Lake 6-7th Mar The same bird also visited Ashworth Moor Reservoir on the 9th Mar
1998   Audenshaw Reservoir 5th Apr Adult full breeding plumage for 40 minutes in the morning only
