BLACKBIRD

 

The largest count of Blackbirds in the county is of 200 birds on Urmston Meadows in October, 1994.

 

An interesting record involved a pure albino fledgling Blackbird with pink eyes at High Lane on the 2nd May, 1994 which was taken into care.

Some interesting ringing recoveries from the county are as follows:

Found dead on the 1st of March 1995 in Medlock Vale, the bird had been ringed in Heligoland, Germany (665km away) on the 11th March, 1994.

A bird ringed in Jylland, Denmark on the 3rd January 2001 was recovered at Ringway on the 17th February 2005 (735 km away).

A bird ringed in Marple on the 2nd February 2002 was killed in fruit netting in Sodermanland, Sweden on the 6th July 2005.
