BAR-TAILED GODWIT
Whilst still a potentially difficult bird to catch up with in the county, small groups do occur and birds can often be found travelling with groups of Whimbrel but the largest flock ever recorded looks unlikely to be ever bettered with 40+ birds in flight over Rumworth Lodge on the 17th February, 1976. By comparison, the largest more recent flock is of 6 birds at Hollingworth Lake on the 10th May, 1993.
An unusual record was of a single bird on a playing field near Stretford on the 23rd October, 1982.
